Weight Loss Wednesday: Snack Ideas

Welcome back to another month of Weight Loss Wednesday tips, tricks and ideas! This month, I wanted to come to you all with a simple little trick into our daily lives when it comes to eating healthy. Snacking! Snack time isn’t just something for kids, it is something we should be doing every single day in between all of our meals. We have at least two to three snacks daily. Eating every four hours means to add healthy treats in between the heavier meals of the day, such as breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

 

So onto my first question… Do you snack for health reasons or is it mindless eating? One thing that is pertinent to weight loss is to eliminate any overeating and get to the underlying issues. We must be mindful of what we are putting in our bodies. Would we rather sit by the computer eating a bag of chips or a bowl of grapes? It is the simple choices that we make that get us closer and closer to our goal. I sure love chips but I love the way grapes make me feel even better. Give power to it, get motivated, and don’t give up!

 

I compiled a list of our favorite snack ideas that we eat throughout the week. Each day we mix it up a bit; yet, we have our absolute favorites that are always stocked up in the fridge. From baby carrots to peanut butter and everything in between, there has got to be at least one or two things for the takeaway. Whether these snack ideas are a good match for anyone reading or not, let it get you pumped to find the ways you and your family can snack on yummy healthy treats versus the leading brands of junk that are sold in our markets these days.

 

 

Here are a few snack ideas for this month’s Weight Loss Wednesday:

 

1. Carrots + Hummus

Baby carrots and fresh pine nut hummus {you can use any kind you want} must be one of our favorite little snacks. Of course, the prepackaged baby carrot bags are the easiest for on-the-go, but; when we have the chance, we buy the big bag and the big hummus to make little homemade to-go cups.

 

2. Celery + Nut Butter

My wife is not a fan of this delectable treat but many—like myself—rant and rave about it. Something about the cold, crunchy celery dipped in sweet, golden nut buttery goodness! Plus, you can switch it up for any nut butter you like: peanut, almond, pistachio, etc.

 

3. Berries + Greek Yogurt

Fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or blackberries mixed with Greek yogurt—preferably plain—is a sweet and creamy dessert that can go down in the books as a snack. How cool is that? You could also sweeten the yogurt with raw honey and dip the fruit instead.

 

4. Corn Tortilla Chips + Salsa

Either homemade corn tortilla chips or store-bought will do, quick and easy couldn’t express it. Pick your favorite salsa, pack it in a small container and bag some chips to go. Simple as that.

 

5. Bread + Cream Cheese

Gluten-free of course, bread and cream cheese {vegan for me} must be one of my favorite little treats lately. Most times, I make a quick slice with my new favorite cinnamon raisin loaf from Trader Joe’s. I toast it lightly, spread generously and I am good to go.

 

6. Green Smoothie

We cannot forget the beloved green smoothie! Pack a blender with greens and coconut water, add fruit and a spoonful of nut butter. Feel free to add a scoop of protein powder for added nutrition.

 

7. Fresh Fruits

Some of our favorite mono-meal fresh fruits are white or red grapes, apples {Granny Smith or Honeycrisp}, ripe bananas, clementines, and dates. I think that dates rise up to the top of the list quite easily but we vary each of these weekly.

 

8. Trail Mix

Trader Joe’s sells amazing bags of individually packed healthy trail mix. They have several options so I have completely stopped making homemade trail mix because these just simply make my life, well, simple! Of course, making trail mix at home is the healthiest option available so feel free to get creative. If you cannot make time for that in your schedule, grab the healthiest available and pack mini servings to go.

 

9. Granola + Greek Yogurt

I have finally found the perfectly unsweetened granola of my dreams! I love to pair it with plain Greek yogurt that I sweeten with raw honey from anywhere in the world I have picked up a jar. I fill a small cup with yogurt, drizzle with honey, top with a ¼ cup of granola and give it a blitz.

 

10. Deli Meat + Cheese

I, personally, am not into nitrates—and I am not sure anyone else is—so I try to stay away from it as much as possible. BUT, and that is a big but, not all deli meat is bad. We have brought it back into our daily lives for easy lettuce boats and little wraps. My favorite way to eat this snack is with two slices of turkey and one slice of veggie cheese {any flavor} wrapped up together in a little roll.

 

So there you go everyone! 10 easy healthy snack ideas for you and your family. Most of these are easily considered mother-tested and kid-approved. Feel free to get flexible with it and come up with snack ideas of your very own. Keep pushing towards your weight loss goal and, remember, don’t give up!
