I guess it wouldn’t come as much of a surprise if I were to say that I don’t wash my face anymore. Now that the cat is out of the bag, I can proceed to explain to you why and, then, I will tell you how. I could say that for the most part of my life I have struggled with acne. My case wasn’t extreme but I guess you could say it was extreme enough to get criticized and bullied a little bit. Kids can be mean but that’s for another post…
For the longest time, I was the girl that went to the store and spent approximately 2 ½ hours in the face wash aisle. I would read every single label and make a decision on what I thought was going to solve my acne this week. Many years ago I found out that I was allergic to coconut oil if applied topically. I’ve come to know it’s only a specific form of coconut oil which is refine that causes this allergy. This byproduct of coconut oil is an ingredient in almost every soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, facial cleanser, you name it, it’s in there! This particular ingredient is used in order to thicken any formula which is too watered down. Being that this is in just about everything, there is no face wash or facial cleanser under the sun that could assist me and washing my face.
After I came to the conclusion that I had to stop moping around and do something about this being an actual problem in my life, I deviated over to using Castile soap. Little did I know this could overly dry my face. I was at a loss and I didn’t know what else to do. I thought since my face was only that the use of Castile soap would remove all of the oils that were “extra”. I didn’t think all of those oils actually had a purpose and had to be removed in a specific manner.
Right around this time of frustration, I was reading a make-up artist blog by someone who uses only holistic products in order to achieve a healthy, beautiful face. Her skin was just glowing in every single picture!
Her secret? Apricot kernel oil! This goes by a couple of different names: apricot oil, apricot seed oil, apricot kernel oil, etc. could you even believe that is all she uses? It’s fairly simple, too. Feel free to take a moment to let your jaw drop to the ground because I didn’t know either.
Oil + oil = no oil.
Right before I jump in the shower I pour just a little bit of the palm of my hand and rub it all over my face. When I jump into the shower, I already have a nice, fresh microfiber cloth towel hanging there ready for me. I soak it in hot water, squeeze a little and wipe the oil off my face. It’s THAT simple!
If you’re wearing make-up when you apply the oil, be aware that you will look like a witch or a raccoon in the forest. This is why my blue microfiber cloth in the photo is stained with lipstick and mascara. I don’t always wear make-up, that’s for sure. When I do, this is how I wash my face. This is actually how I wash my face every single day. Even on the days that I skip the shower, don’t act like you don’t, I will always wash my face in the sink just like this.
My cloth is permanently stained and I do have a couple of them, stained as well. I guess if you let them dry out and use them a couple of times, then let it sit dry in dirty clothes for a couple of days that could cause the stain to sit. I don’t really mind though; if you do, I am sure that there precautions for that. Anyway, I hope y’all are well!
