Want to talk money? This year, I have come up with a budgeting spreadsheet that I will be sharing with you in the days to come as I perfect it and make sure all of the formulas work correctly. I, also, need to make sure that the downloadable Excel spreadsheet works for all of you, beautiful people, and that you may download it safely to your computers or smartphones or even your tablets!
This is a fantastic way to budget out monthly bills, the income you and/or your spouse are bringing to the table and all other expenditures you may be spending on either on a monthly basis or as a one-time deal. I’m doing this for our family because we so desperately need to have a better organization system, or file organization system, as it relates to the money. More money, more problems—just like the Notorious B.I.G. used to say. Although I agree with him on that, less money does not equal less problems—at least I don’t really think so. I guess being tight on money is humbling, when you think about it.
I have nothing really to complain about because God has given me absolutely everything that I could possibly need: I have a beautiful wife, an incredible son/dog, I got my dream house (!!!) and I get to travel the world while I run my businesses. Money's not everything!! Don’t get me wrong though, having money is a great thing and being financially stable is a definite go for many of you in life, including our family.
You guys, this is the beginning of something grand, whether or not you or myself have several grand in the bank. Think about it like this…do you remember exactly where you were a year ago today? I bet you weren’t in the same place you are today, good or bad. Think to yourself where you could be a year from now on this very same day.
I want to achieve goals that I don’t think I could actually achieve because God says He can do [exceedingly, abundantly above all we could think, ask or imagine—Ep 3:20-21]. That’s the verbiage in NIV, one of the many Bible versions, but; my personal favorite version is the one that says immeasurably more. I remember clearly one particular year we went to Atlanta, GA for passion conference and Louie Giglio preached about the immeasurably more. I don’t want to get off track here but…what could be the immeasurably more in your life?
When I ask God to fulfill His will in the “immeasurably more”, I want Him to teach and mold me into someone who is more freely about to talk about money. I want to stop being so awkward about discussing finances here on the blog and with others as I travel around the world. I get asked often, “How do you do it?” And, I never really have an answer for them because I do not actually know one at the moment. God is in the seams of it all. BUT! Before we get to checking the stitching, let’s talk money and see how we can pinch some pennies this year.
Questions to Ask Yourself
Do you spend too much on groceries?
Do your expenditures exceed your income?
Are you in debt or debt-free?
Are you a homeowner or a renter?
Are you a slave to your job?
Do you like paycheck-to-paycheck?
Is money draining your life?
See above some starter questions to get the topic flowing. You can answer them in the comments or simply to yourself. These are all different topics I want to explore together. Let me know your thoughts and if there are other relative topics in the financial criteria that I may have missed.
Remember…I am not a financial advisor, just an entrepreneur turned housewife learning about how to be financially stable. I cannot wait to uncover more as the year flows on by.
