In the last few weeks, I’ve been really into crunchy beauty. I want to make sure I keep my body healthy from the inside out. When I first started this blog, it was all about healthy food and exercise. Although our family still strongly believes in this, we also believe in keeping healthy on the outside as well. I got a little carried away there focusing too much on the food and the exercise; I wasn’t focusing on other ways my body was taking in chemicals and toxins—more specifically on our face when we use toxic face scrub and cleansers.
Our lifestyle change does not only have to reflect on the food that we eat and exercise that we do, but also in the products that we put on our body. I used to use Dove body wash, Pantene Pro V shampoo, L’Oréal conditioner with John Frieda leave-in and Clean ‘n Clear Face scrub. Occasionally, I would buy a julep mint face mask, from a brand I do not remember. Should I even go on? I don’t think so… UPDATE: check out my Ultimate Face Cleanser, best stuff ever.
My cousin, Lala, told me to get the “think dirty” app on my phone. Thank God she told me about this! This allowed me to check all the products I was using on my body and in my kitchen and all over the house. I was able to check the toxicity levels of these products and I came to the realization that there are no cleaning products on the market. This left me baffled, to say the least. I even checked Johnson’s and Johnson’s baby shampoo, and; I was shocked at the sick ingredients that they use to market baby shampoo. Who would even put this on their baby?! I sure wouldn’t. And, I sure wouldn’t let my family members use this on my nieces, nephews and little cousins.
I guess the point of my story here is that we are not safe from the products that are out being marketed on the shelves of our grocery stores and local pharmacies. I have come to find that the only way I can keep myself safe from all these chemicals and toxins is by making my very own crunchy beauty products. I know that some people are not good in the kitchen and they are not good at DIY projects. Lucky for the ladies and gents in my life, they get gifts all the time from us of leftover crunchy beauty products and crunchy cleaning products for them to test out. If I can win over some of the most diehard marketed brand product junkies, I am sure you will be won over, too.
