We have dreamt of going camping for so long but have never actually taken the plunge. This year, we are changing up the travel game in our life. Our next road trip will have taken the legendary road trip to a completely different level—internationally.
As we travel the Alaska Highway, we plan on camping in several remarkable stops along the way. There are sites unbeknownst to us that await us on the other side of the country and we just cannot wait to get there! We will be crossing international lines as we head over to Alaska through the borders of Canada. Just in case you’re thinking that we’re crazy, we already know that. Everybody has been telling us as we’ve been unraveling the truth about this year's remaining travel plans.
There are so many things that we have yet to do in order to be completely ready for this next level road trip. And it always comes down to essential oils! Having already set up a Stellar First-Aid Kit, Essential Oil Bug Repellent Spray, Ultimate Face Cleanser, Leave-in Conditioning Hair Oil, Glowing Body Oil, and so much more, we had to come up with the Essential Oil Camping Candles that would repel bugs in the nearby area.
Thank you, Lala, for all of the donated Altoid mint tins. They have really come in handy for this adorable and useful little project.
One of my favorite parts of making these Essential Oil Camping Candles was to be able to reuse some dried flowers from our 6th anniversary. Last year, we were celebrating our candy anniversary and she brought home a bouquet of salsa flowers—seasonal flowers in festive colors—that were just to die for. As they grew limb, I removed them from the water filled vase and hung them out to dry. These same flowers have revived themselves into these candles, adding fresh color and good vibes.
Essential Oil Camping Candles
The neatest part of making Essential Oil Camping Candles is be able to combine the natural citronella essential oil with dried flowers.
Prep time: 2 mins
Work time: 3 mins
Total time: 5 mins
Makes: 4 candles
Add wax flakes to a glass measuring cup. Microwave for 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds. Mix in citronella oil into the melted wax.
Place wick in the center of each empty tin container.
Pour wax into each container about half way. Allow to cool. Top it off with more wax. If desired, add dry flowers to each candle.
Allow to cool. Cover with lid.
Pack in your camping bag!
