Cuban Pork Burgers

June 26, 2016

This weekend, I was planning on setting up a small little dinner party gathering for some friends. Come to find out, our dinner guests are vegetarian!!! They don’t need any kind of meat, some seafood only. I was completely taken aback because I had a mission to make the most amazing Cuban Pork Burgers the world has ever seen. Ugh… * sigh *

On my bi-weekly trip to Trader Joe’s, I picked up an incredibly lean grass-fed pork loin roast. I have had Cuban Pork Burgers on the back of my mind since summer of last year. When I fixed my eye on this roast, I knew it was the one that was going to be chopped into perfectly ground pork meat. Of course, I had to go the extra mile and add some delicious, crispy turkey bacon to the mix. The heftier the better, right? Or so they say. Who are “they” anyway? Lol.

These Cuban Pork Burgers were slightly inspired by a toston burger I had in Miami a few weeks ago with my parents and wife at a spot called The Pincho Factory. Amazing food! And they had an even better Cilantro Garlic Sauce than usually found in restaurants—enough to make your eyes cry of pure joy. Well…not as good as mine though! Don’t forget to check out our travel & dining reviews on Yelp! @travel.yelp.live.

Because of this great family dining experience, I thought I would replace our traditional burger lettuce leaves as wraps and use Tostones as buns {just like the restaurant}. Get ready for the best burgers of your life! You can customize yours to fit your grocery list, if you know what I mean. We added some of our favorite Caramelized Onions on top and even drizzled the pure delicacy that is our new Garlic Honey. Ready to make your own? Cuban Pork Burgers

These Cuban Pork Burgers were slightly inspired by the infamous toston burger. With an incredibly lean grass-fed pork loin roast, there's no stopping us!

Prep time:  5 mins

Cook time:  15 mins

Total time:  20 mins

Serves:  6-8

  1. Make a batch of Tostones. Set aside to cool.

  2. Make a batch of Cilantro Garlic Sauce. Refrigerate.

  3. Chop pork into chunks. Mince garlic.

  4. In a food processor, add all ingredients. Pulse until smoothly combined. Transfer burger meat to a medium bowl. Roll up burgers into medium size balls. Flatten in the palm of your hand to create a patty.

  5. Lightly grease a large pan with oil. Cook two patties at a time 2-3 minutes on each side. Repeat until no patties are left.

  6. As these heat up, cut each turkey bacon slice in half. Cook on a pan until crispy. Set aside. If desired, make Caramelized Onions and over easy eggs at this time.

  7. Serve patties in between two Tostones. Top with two pieces of bacon, romaine lettuce, drizzle lightly with Garlic Honey, and generously add Cilantro Garlic Sauce, to taste.
