In our house, it is still winter until further notice! We will keep buying bags of fresh blood oranges for as long as we can possibly pull it off or as long as they actually keep sending them in stores. With so many on hand the past few weeks, we have spent many days curating neat recipes with our blood orange collection, including this spa treatment style Blood Orange Lip Scrub.
Of course, I’m a total nerd when it comes to reading about health benefits associated with seasonal produce, or fruits & veggies in general. We read the beneficial side of what a single blood orange can do for our skin and that’s when we started up brainstorming about using their benefit for our face.
Turns out that—after lots of research—blood oranges are great for our lips! So if no one else has told you that before, I say so. I have always bought the Bubblegum Lip Scrub from Lush, which has less than an oz retailing for $10. Let’s be real, it’s expensive and I’m a skeptic about how it got that flavor to begin with. I love their stuff but if I can make my own Blood Orange Lip Scrub with more health benefits that the luxurious store-bought kind than you know I jumped on the homemade bandwagon. The more I can save our family money with all-natural, homemade products the better.
Let’s talk health benefits of this Blood Orange Lip Scrub and blood oranges in general! They are rich in vitamin C—very refreshing for ladies lips—and also has vitamin A—keeping the skin nice and tight. These unusual oranges are heavy in folic acid, which regenerate our red blood cells. And, the red pigmentation comes from the anthocyanins in them due to the volcanic atmosphere they are grown in. The anthocyanins are chalk full of anti-inflammatory properties that strengthen the collagen in our skin while preventing skin cancer and bacterial infections and defends our blood vessels from oxidative damages. Not to mention it adds a sweet pink tint to your pretty lips after exfoliating them.
Yay for the coolest Blood Orange Lip Scrub in town! I plan on handing these out to my absolute favorite ladies in cute little mason jars for my Bridesmaid Proposals. What will you do with your new lip scrub?
